The ship’s bridge didn’t feel large enough as we came towards the wooden dock in Phop Phra. In the end it had taken another full day to reach and boys being boys, Gabriel and I had made the most of the time together. We were still at the ‘getting used to having a man handle my cock’ stage but I had hope that blowjobs might be on the menu soon. To be honest the level of emotional intensity between us left me reeling. I’d never experienced anything close to how Gabriel touched my body and through that medium every atom of my being.

It scared the crap out of me.

The present moment scared me as well. Even at our current distance we could see the black SUVs with tinted windows parked beside a wooden dock sticking out into the river. Big men with black suits, sunglasses and bulges under their arms stood near the vehicles keeping the locals at bay with their aggressive vibes.

They didn’t have flags on them, but they screamed American. As we watched, another vehicle pulled up, a battered old Nissan Navarra. “Bet that’s the British contingent,” I said. Gabriel snorted.

The ship docked. I had my uniform back, or what was left of it and my trusty boots, while Gabriel looked far too vulnerable in ill-fitting jeans and shirt. The captain brought the ship into the dock with hardly a bump and the crew tied us off.

“They are here for you? Oui?” he asked, pointing at the opening doors. You could almost see the people shudder as the heat hit their air-conditioned arses. More men in suits exited and a woman.

“Unfortunately,” I said. They weren’t likely to try anything too terrible while we were in public, so we left the ship with Anna and Grace as security. I’d asked them to accompany us as representatives of the organisation to rescue our pretty backsides out of the frying pan. Even if they were helping us into the fire.

It took a few minutes to give our final farewells and thanks to the men and women who had saved us but before we knew it, we walked up the dock towards Thailand.

We were both tense, but we had a plan of sorts because Gabriel held dual citizenship to a country with refugees spilling out of it at a rate of knots. The heat didn’t seem so bad this far from the jungle and among a farming township. The Thai people were smiling, and everything seemed relaxed. The air smelt a little too much of human mixed with dead fish, but if that was the cost of returning to civilisation then we’d pay it.

Now we faced a woman in heels, surrounded by the men in black suits with white t-shirts on and those give away bulges under their left arms.

“Maddox?” I asked.

“Yep,” Gabriel said. “They aren’t going to let me get to the embassy.”

“Fuck that,” I muttered. “We’ll swim for it if we have to.”

Our fingers brushed.

The woman removed her sunglasses. She looked like Starbucks had made her out of latte and spite.
